All fabrics are constructed of polyester which help prevent staining and water absorption. Cellular fabrics are non-woven which give them the soft light filtering appearance.

Pleated fabrics are one dimensional which allows them to fold up into a small space (See fabric stacking chart below) Cellular fabrics have cells which create dead air space and therefore offer better insulation characteristics.  They also hide the cords inside the cells which gives a more pleasing appearance

The fabrics have different Opacity and Heat Gain Stopped characteristics.  The latter figures also mean the amount of heat retained in the room in the winter. These figures are only approximates and should be used as relative figures for fabric selection purposes only.

If you want light, but not so much that it casts a glare on a computer screen, Cellular Light Filtering is the preferred fabric. If fading is a prime consideration, the Aluminized fabrics should be selected.

All of these fabrics accordion closed and take up a very small space in the window. Below are the stacking heights for various models.

Stacking Heights Including Rails

Shade Length Optima Day Night Ultima Day/Night Motorized
20”-26” 1 ¾” ” 2 ” 2 1/2” 2 5/8”
28” – 34” 1 7/8” 2 1/8 2 5/8” 2 ¾”
44” – 50” 2” 2 ½ 3” 2 7/8”
67 – 73” 2 ¼” 2 ¾ 3 ¼” 3 1/8”

All fabrics should be located at least 3” from the glass or plastic of the skylight window. This may be less with Cellular Light Filtering fabric in Solariums. The reason for this is to protect the glass from the high heat that is developed in the space between the shade and window.

The colors of the shade rails are white and off-white (a light beige). See color chart above.

It is recommended that all shades be operated intermittently in order to maintain the integrity of the pleats. This is true for all pleated and cellular shades on the market. If a shade has been left open for a long time and some pleats lose their memory, the user should manually accordion closed the fabric and keep the shade in a compressed condition for several days in the sun. This will reset the pleats.
