Skylight Shades

Skyview Shades are the most versatile shades available.  They are tension shades which means that they can operate at any angle, including up side down. They are operated with a telescopic pole which fits into a recess in the travel rail and can be easily pushed to open or close the shade.  There is also the option of having a handle attached to the travel rail and being able to manually raise the shade to the correct level.

Aluminum side rails are included which allow the shade to fit into a window opening up to 2” wider than the shade itself.  Either side of the side rail can be used to face against the window well or towards the room. Usually the 1 ¾” side of the “L” shaped side rail is put against the walls of the window well and the ¾” side faces into the room. Exact measurement will allow you the best fit of your shade into the window well. Wait until all drywall and other finisheS are added prior to making your final measurements.

The maximum width of a skylight shade is 60”.You may fit more than one shade into a light shaft by putting two  “L” shaped side rails back to back to form a “T”

The channels are not required to support the shade for lengths of under 48”. Their main use is to take up differences in window and window shaft widths and to reduce side light gaps

Skyview shades are offered in three basic configurations which are described below.  There are many fabric options which can be combined for the most amount of flexibility in the Day/Night and Ultima Day/Night models.

Shade tension can be adjusted to obtain the exact amount of tension to operate the shades easily, and at the same time to keep the shade and shade travel rail parallel to the other rails. A spring and turnbuckle are located in the bottom rail which can be reached by snapping the bottom rail out of the bottom brackets.

Please note that very high shades, ie those higher than 10’ may be too difficult to operate with a telescopic pole.  This is especially true for those who cannot create sufficient leverage to push the shades forward or backward.  In this case we recommend motorized shades.

Shades are operated by either 3-6’ or 6-12 telescopic aluminum poles with a wood tip at the end.  For those shades which are within reach a handle option is  available.

Measuring
Measure the length in one location and the width at three locations: top, middle and bottom. Order the narrowest width.
