Skylight shade fabrics are in the white and off-white range which is desired most for ceiling and solarium applications.
All fabrics are constructed of polyester which help prevent staining and water absorption. We have two main types of fabric: pleated and cellular fabrics.
Pleated fabrics are one dimensional which allows them to fold up into a small space
(See fabric stacking chart below).
Cellular fabrics have cells which create dead air space and therefore offer better insulation characteristics. They also hide the cords inside the cells which gives a more pleasing appearance. Cellular fabrics are non-woven which give them the soft light filtering appearance.
These fabrics are used on our Optima Pleated Privacy Shades. They block about 20% of light, 40% of heat gain and 90% of UV light.
These fabrics are used on our Optima Cellular Light Filtering Shades. They block about 35% of light, 55% of heat gain and 90% of UV light.
These fabrics are used on our Optima Cellular Midnight Shades. They block about 99% of light, 79% of heat gain and 90% of UV light.
The fabrics have different Opacity and Heat Gain Stopped characteristics. The latter figures also mean the amount of heat retained in the room in the winter. These figures are only approximates and should be used as relative figures for fabric selection purposes only.
If you want light, but not so much that it casts a glare on a computer screen, Cellular Light Filtering is the preferred fabric.
All of the skylight shade fabrics accordion closed and take up a very small space in the window. Below are the stacking heights for various models.
All fabrics should be located at least 3” from the glass or plastic of the skylight window. This may be less with cellular light filtering fabric in sunrooms. The reason for this is to protect the glass from the high heat that is developed in the space between the shade and window.
Our standard rail color is white. We can custom paint rails but suggest that you contact us to get the detail pricing.
It is recommended that all shades be operated intermittently in order to maintain the integrity of the pleats. This is true for all pleated and cellular shades on the market. If a shade has been left open for a long time and some pleats lose their memory, the user should manually accordion closed the fabric and keep the shade in a compressed condition for several days in the sun. This will reset the pleats.
Skyview Shades are easy to clean. Occasionally brush your shades with a feather duster or with a light sweep of a vacuum, using a hand held brush attachment.
